Tom Welling has played a young Clark Kent on the WB series "Smallville" since 2001. The series follows the teenager as he tries to learn to harness his super powers.

Welling's fans hoped he would be cast as the lead in "Superman Returns," but director Bryan Singer insisted on using an unknown actor. "Smallville" moves from the soon-to-be defunct WB to the new CW network in the fall.
