Toddler in vehicle stolen from Walmart parking lot is found safe
(CBS/KHOU) HOUSTON - Police found an 18-month-old boy safe Friday morning, the day after an SUV was stolen from a Walmart parking lot in Houston with him strapped in the back seat.
An Amber Alert was issued Thursday for Evan Montgomery Lamar Miller who was taken around 5:44 p.m., reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
The boy's mother reportedly told police she left Evan and his 7-year-old cousin in her Jeep Cherokee with the engine running while she ran back into the store for an item she forgot. Police say the 7-year-old girl was able to jump out of the car when the thief climbed in.
"As I am running out I saw my niece running toward me screaming my name, and my car going down the road. I dropped everything and ran towards the car," Niah O'Neil said, reports KHOU.
Evan was found safe Friday in the back of a strip center in the 8200 block of West Bellfort, reports KHOU. Houston police say the toddler was still strapped inside the stolen Jeep.
