Tiger Elicits Sadness, Scorn and Support

Tiger Woods signs autographs for fans on the 18th hole after his Pro-Am round at The Barclays golf tournament, N.J., Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, in Paramus, N.J. AP

Tiger Woods was on the driving range this morning at 6:25am. He hit balls for about 30 minutes before teeing off at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. in the opening round of the Barclay's PGA Tournament.

Despite all of his personal problems (or perhaps because of them), Tiger still draws a huge crowd. They were packed in three to four people deep to watch him on the range and the crowd cheered as he was introduced on the first hole.

However, when you ask a lot of golf fans what they think of him, it is a mixture of sadness and support. They want to see him play better but they also say they have lost a lot of faith in him as a person. The women we talked to have particularly strong feelings about his failures as a husband.

But winning has a way of changing the story. If Tiger can get his roar back, fans may not forget what's happened but it may be easier to forgive.
