Tickets go on sale today for pope's speech in Philly
PHILADELPHIA - Tickets will be available online Tuesday for a Pope Francis event at the Independence Mall in Philadelphia.
The pope will be giving a speech on immigration and religious freedom in front of Independence Hall on Sept. 26.
Officials say 10,000 tickets for that event will be available beginning at noon Tuesday at the website worldmeeting2015.org/tickets.
The tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis. People will be limited to four tickets each.
Thousands of other tickets are being given out to parishes with large immigrant communities in an effort to assure a diverse audience.
CBS Philly reports some people on e-Bay and Craigslist are trying to profit off the papal visit by selling their train tickets for up to $40 - four times the ticket's face value. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is urging those interested in traveling to see the pope to visit their website and pay the standard rate.
The pope also is scheduled to appear at two events on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway: the Sept. 26 closing festival of the World Meeting of Families and a Sept. 27 celebration of Mass.
