Three Could Be Charm Twice For Bloom
Good things seem to come in threes for Orlando Bloom.
On Friday, the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie hits theaters.
"Pirates of Caribbean: At World's End" wraps up the trilogy of swashbuckling and sashaying pirates films starring Bloom and Johnny Depp.
It's expected to post stellar numbers.
Trilogies have been kind to Bloom. Thanks to his role in the "Lord of the Rings" epics, he now makes millions of dollars per movie.
And, he told The Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman, the "Pirates" movies have been "an awesome ride for everyone all the way, all the way across the board. Just loved it."
Once again, Bloom plays brave William Turner, fighting off hordes of rivals while pursuing his love, Elizabeth.
The film is, Kauffman says, filled with "eye popping" special effects, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
It kept the actors on their toes, Bloom says.
Kauffman told him, "I heard Johnny Depp in an interview say just how physically challenging it is: You're asked to sword fight, on a plank, then they tilt the plank!"
"There were a couple of pretty hairy moments," Bloom responded. "You know, running up the masts and stuff like that. Just the simplest thing — you can just leap onto the side of the boat and then jump for a rope and then slip, and there's a long way to fall!"

Bloom says he got bruised up making the movie.
What will fans take from the third "Pirates" film they didn't from the first two?
"A sense of closure," Bloom replied, "a sense of the loose ends being tied off, an epic movie. They're all big, but I think the third movie just feels really grand, and a sense of fulfillment. When you leave the second film, its on a cliffhanger, and you want to see what happens, so you'll get a sense of the end of a trilogy of films."
Not that there was any doubt but, Kauffman says, Bloom's celebrity was sealed when People magazine named him its Bachelor of the Year and one of its 50 most beautiful.
Bloom kidded that his mother and sister would be quick to disagree!
When Kauffman showed Bloom one of the "Pirates" action figures Disney is marketing, he said, "It's strange but its kind of cool to think that, one day, when I have a family of my own, I'll have to put some of those in a box and they can play around with them themselves!"
Bloom insists he isn't dating anyone at the moment, just "running solo right now. … I'm happy just to keep my head down. It's good. Life's good."
Bloom says he's taking a break from Hollywood and heading to London to do theater for awhile.
As predicted, "Shrek the Third" was first in the weekend box office race with a $122 million opening weekend, a record for an animated movie, and pushing "Spider-Man 3" into second place.
Last year, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" set an opening weekend record — which was broken by "Spider-Man 3" earlier this month.
