Opinions of Obama

As President Obama prepares to give his last State of the Union address, we find out how well Americans think he's doing the nation's top job, and how his approval ratings stack up to his recent predecessors. We also gauge Americans' opinions on gun laws, and the biggest challenges facing the country.

Obama's legacy

The annual State of the Union address usually gives presidents an opportunity to encourage Congress and the American public to embrace their agendas. But for President Obama, at the end of his second term, the address is a chance to make the case that his successor should build on his legacy.

Counterpoint

President Obama is getting ready to lay out his priorities for the country, but so is South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, the Republican chosen to answer him. The rebuttal tradition dates back to 1966, and some of the people who delivered them went on to give their own State of the Union addresses down the road.

Education boss

The new Acting Secretary of Education, Dr. John King Jr., steps into a role his predecessor, Arne Duncan, left mired deep in controversy. With support for Common Core waning and student debt skyrocketing, King tells "CBS This Morning" about the serious challenges he's facing.

"El Chapo"

A newly-released mug shot of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman shows the drug lord with his head and mustache shaved. Workers at the Mexican prison where he's being held have indicated that officials are taking special measures to keep their very special inmate from escaping -- again.

Clinton vs. Sanders

Hillary Clinton attacked Bernie Sanders' health care plan at a campaign stop in northeast Iowa, as the race for the Democratic nomination continues to tighten. She warned that what her rival is proposing could "hurt more than help American families."

Pricey prescriptions

Some of the biggest pharmaceutical makers in the U.S. -- an industry already in the spotlight for hiking medication costs -- have raised the cost of numerous brand-name products in recent weeks. Is there any end in sight to the soaring cost of prescription drugs?
