Excessive heat warnings remain in effect across the Desert Southwest -- and with the heat, comes fire. More than 80 major wildfires are burning in the West. Two news ones ignited near Los Angeles on Sunday. The flames have already destroyed half a dozen structures. In central Washington, crews are struggling to control several wildfires. At least six have surrounded the city of Chelan, where about 1,500 people have been forced to evacuate.
A search plane has spotted the wreckage of an Indonesian passenger plane that went missing with 54 people on board, smoke still billowing from it, in a rugged area in eastern Papua province.There was no immediate word if there were any survivors of the crash.
John Kasich getting major endorsement
CBS News has confirmed Ohio Gov. John Kasich will be endorsed by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley. Kasich's people are touting Bentley's backing as significant for two reasons: a northerner, who some consider not conservative enough, is plucking a Southern endorsement from the plethora of Southern candidates, and only a handful of sitting Republican governors have offered endorsements to date.
