Thieving Teacher Caught on Cellphone Stealing from Student Lockers, Say Police
OCALA, Fla. (CBS/AP) Students at North Marion High School have been complaining for years that someone was stealing out of their lockers.
Could that someone be teacher Steven Simmons?
To catch a thief, a student set his cellphone to record in a locker, in an otherwise empty locker room. Police say caught-on-tape was 49-year-old Steven Simmons, a phys ed teacher, who's now accused of swiping cash from students' lockers at the school in Citra, Fla.
Students showed the recording to a school official on Thursday, April 29, and Simmons was arrested 20 minutes later on a charge of grand theft.
Authorities say Simmons admitted to stealing for years, including taking about $400 so far this year.
Simmons had no comment to reporters, after he was released on $2,000 bail.
