These #TrumpBookReport tweets may be the funniest debate reactions ever
The third and final presidential debate of 2016 spawned more than its share of moments destined for (perhaps fleeting) internet fame. There was the exchange where Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump called each other a puppet in a manner most of us would expect from bickering schoolchildren. The tweetstorm over Trump calling Clinton “a nasty woman” and the resulting hashtag #nastywomengetsh**done. The epic meme of the white pantsuit.
It was, however, Donald Trump’s response to one of moderator Chris Wallace’s foreign policy questions that inspired what was arguably the most the hilarious trending hashtag of the night.
St. Louis mayoral candidate Antonio French was none too impressed with the Republican nominee’s foreign policy knowledge. So, he penned the tweet below, comparing Trump to a teenager giving a book report on a book he hasn’t read.
Then, French’s tweet took on a life of its own, spawning the viral hashtag #TrumpBookReport and hundreds of responses from around the world.
Here are just a few of the highlights.
Several of the viral tweets riffed on the theme and even incorporated other controversial moments from the campaign. The leaked 2005 tape of Trump and Billy Bush on an “Access Hollywood” bus, for example...
His comments about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly...
His now infamous comments about Mexican immigrants...
Even his plan to build a wall and have Mexico pay for it...
During an election season when so much of what goes on seems to dishearten the American public, social media has consistently come through to offer some comic relief... an outlet for people to funnel their outrage and disgust with the system into loaded humor instead.
