"The X Factor": Top 4 battle in semifinals

Only four acts are left in "The X Factor" competition and on Wednesday night's episode they all tried to make a lasting impression on America, as the judges don't have a say this week in who goes home. The contestants' fates are now in the hands of viewers.

Left in the the competition are Tate Stevens from L.A. Reid's Over-25s, Carly Rose Soneclar from Britney Spears' Teens and Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony both from Simon Cowell's Groups. Judge/mentor Demi Lovato is left without any more contestants.

Here's how the contestants fared this week:

L.A. Reid's Over-25s

Tate Stevens sang "Bonfire" by Craig Morgan, for which Cowell praised him for sticking with his country roots. Spears said it wasn't his best work and wanted to "see his heart."

For his second song, Stevens gave an emotional performance of Clay Walker's "Fall." "We've seen you hit and miss on this competition," said Spears. "I feel that was a direct hit."

Britney Spears' Teens

Carly Rose Soneclar sang "Your Song" by Elton John. Lovato called the performance "very predictable," but still very enjoyable.

For her second song she sang John Lennon's "Imagine." Cowell thought that she "over-complicated" the song, but Lovato called it "amazing."

Simon Cowell's Groups

Emblem3 was the first up from Cowell's groups singing "Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton. Their performance prompted Reid to say they had their first "$5 million moment." For their second song they sang Paul McCartney's "Hey Jude." Spears says it's an "A-level performance" and calls them "teen heartthrobs" like the Beatles.

Fifth Harmony tackled Ellie Goulding's "Anything Can Happen." Reid, Spears and Lovato raved about their performance. Spears called it "magic." For their second song they sang "Impossible" by Shontelle, a song they had performed before. Reid called their choice "a little bit lazy."
