"The Voice": Sasha Allen becomes "Sasha Fierce"
After last week's surprising elimination of two judges' favorites (which led to Adam Levine candid reaction and subsequent apology), the Top 6 returned to "The Voice" stage on Monday to sing two songs -- one chosen by them, the other by their coaches.
Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher each have one contestant still in the competition, while Blake Shelton has three. One of those singers will be sent home during Tuesday's episode.
Read on to see how they did this week:
Team Blake:
Holly Tucker was assigned Martina McBride's "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues" by Shelton, but the judges weren't blown away by her performance. "I don't have anything too critical to say, but I did want to see more, I guess," said Usher. For her own song, she chose to show her emotional side with Rascall Flatt's "My Wish." "You've really shown range and scope," Levine told her. "Consistency has just been amazing from you."
The Swon Brothers started off with Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel," staged in front of a saloon with female dancers in corsets and feathers. But despite the distracting setting, the duo's harmonies came through. For their second song, Shelton assigned them Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee." Levine said they did "something great," while Usher added, "It's great that you're able to have fun and represent where you're from."
Danielle Bradbery sailed through Pam Tillis' "Shake the Sugar Tree" and ended her song choice, "A Little Bit Stronger" by Sara Evans, with a rousing final note. "That last note was one of the most powerful I've heard in this competition, so you're good to go. You should be happy," Levine told her.
Team Usher:
Michelle Chamuel was assigned Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know," which showed off her vulnerability and emotional high notes. She chose Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" for her second song, and was surprised by Swift herself during rehearsals. Chamuel was rewarded for the theatrical performance with thunderous applause and judges' praise. "I'm so freakin' jealous right now, damn it," Shelton said. "When Taylor did it, it was intense, but that was head-bangin'!"
Team Shakira:
Sasha Allen delivered two strong performances, first with her pick of Aretha Franklin's "Ain't No Way" and again with Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," complete with a theatrical wardrobe change mid-performance. "I guess there's more than one Sasha Fierce," Usher said, referring to Beyonce's alter-ego. "You've got an incredible voice and that was really remarkable. I didn't see it coming at all. It was out of here."
Team Adam:
Amber Carrington was assigned Skid Row's power ballad "I Remember You" and put a bluegrass spin on it. "You take risks, sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't," Levine told her. "I am so happy you represent my team and you are willing to take those risks." For her second song, she chose "Crazy" by Patsy Cline. Shakira called it "dreamy," and Shelton gave it his seal of approval.
