The Situation files suit against Abercrombie & Fitch
(CBS) Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is taking aim against Abercrombie & Fitch. He's filing a lawsuit against the clothing company, claiming Abercrombie has infringed on his catchphrase GTL and the Situation trademarks, according to TMZ.
It all stems back to August when A&F publicly offered the "Jersey Shore" star money to stop wearing its clothes, saying the "association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans."
The Situation is not happy with the apparent publicity stunt. In the suit, he argues that Abercrombie's advertising ploy infringed on his trademarks through the sale of T-shirts that featured the phrases "The Fitchuation" and "GTL...You Know The Deal."
The suit claims A&F is profiting from its "false affiliation" with the reality star and has wrongly used his "name, image and likeness for advertising purposes in violation of applicable law," Reuters reports.
The Situation is asking for a reported $4 million in damages.
Any money he could get may prove pretty useful if his "Jersey Shore" co-star, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, is right about The Situation's financial, well ... situation. She recently told GQ, "I'm not going to spend money like Mike. He's already broke!"
If The Situation does score any cash from the suit, you can be assured there will be a few fist pumps to go around.
Speaking of which, the new season of MTV's "Jersey Shore" will start in January 2012.
