The Scoop On Renée And Kenny

Well, she had him from hello.

At least, that's what he said in his hit song.

Of course, we are referring to Oscar winner Renée Zellweger, who wed country music star Kenny Chesney in a surprise Caribbean ceremony on Monday.

Entertainment contributor and People magazine senior editor Jess Cagle visited The Early Show to talk about it and show exclusive pictures of the private affair.

As for how their romance began, Cagle reports, "They met Jan. 15 at the tsunami benefit. Renée Zellweger was answering phones, and Kenny Chesney was performing. And she told a couple of friends, 'Oh, Kenny Chesney is really interesting to me. I may send him a note.' I think a couple of people told him she was going to send him a note. He walked up to her and said, 'Look, if you're going to send me a note, don't let the principal find out.'

"They had each other from hello. At that point, they exchanged numbers and e-mails and started this sort of long-distance relationship that became a real romantic thing."

But it wasn't just the principal who was kept in the dark about their relationship. "Renée Zellweger is surprisingly adept at keeping her private life private," Cagle notes. And their marriage was definitely not a Hollywood wedding; it was attended by only 35 friends and family members.

"There were no celebrities," Cagle says, "This really was just very close people. Her father walked her down the aisle. And they partied at a local joint the night before."

It was also not a black-tie affair.

"In fact," Cagle says, "at the dinner the night before, they were in jeans and flip flops. The one thing she did was to have a custom-designed Carolina Herrera design because she always wears that."

So why the Caribbean?

"Kenny Chesney has a home on St. John," Cagle explains, "He really divides his time between St. John and Nashville. And there is this place where he told people once, this is the place that he goes to recoup and take a breath. And that's where they got married, because it's special to him. Also, you just can't get any more private or further away from the paparazzi than a private estate in the Caribbean."

And as with any quick wedding, the rumor is that she may be pregnant, but Cagle says, "She certainly has not indicated that to be true. I think, at this point in her life, she would like to start a family. We can probably expect that soon."

But for now, the couple has a lot of career commitments.

He says, "I think, like any celebrity couple, they become more than the sum of their parts. I think that it's certainly going to cause a lot more hullabaloo around 'Cinderella Man,' which is her new movie. And he's on tour right now, so there will be a lot more excitement around that."

This is the first marriage for both.

In the past, she has been linked romantically to Jim Carrey and Jack White, whom she met during the filming of "Cold Mountain." As for his past loves, Cagle says, "He broke up in 1999 with a woman who was a health care worker, a civilian. And they were engaged. But since then, he hasn't really been seriously linked to anyone."
