"The Monuments Men": Watch the new trailer

George Clooney and Matt Damon are saving the world -- the art world, that is -- in a new trailer for "The Monuments Men."

The film, which Clooney also directs, is about a crew of art historians and museum curators dispatched to recover renowned works of art stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys them.

"If you destroy an entire generation of people's culture, it is as if they never existed. That's what Hitler wants, and it's the one thing we can't allow," George Stout (Clooney) proclaims in the film, which is based on the book "The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History" by Robert M. Edsel.

Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin and John Goodman round out the film's star-studded cast.

"The Monuments Men" is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18.
