Texas man wanted for murder of girlfriend captured
LEON COUNTY, Texas - A man accused of fatally stabbing his fianceé, then burning and burying her body was tracked down and taken into custody Tuesday, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
Colt Morgan, 29, had been on the run since killing his fiancée Wende Marshall, burning her body in a fireplace and burying her in the backyard of their Cypress home in late October, police say.
Authorities came close to capturing Morgan on Nov. 23. An officer saw him walking down a rural road in Leon County but Morgan took the officer by surprise and attacked him. The assault was captured on dashcam video and the manhunt intensified after that, reports the station.
Authorities later found a makeshift tent, built out of garbage bags and duct tape, where they believed Morgan was hiding, but he had already moved on, according to the station.
Authorities later learned that Morgan had applied for a job at a Pizza Hut in Leon County. He was captured in Buffalo, which is also in Leon County.
