(CBS/WREG) - A dramatic car chase through Shelby County, Tenn. was caught on tape as two escapees accused of murder in Louisiana made a run for it - and lost.

In the video, obtained by CBS affiliate WREG, you can see a combination of Tennessee and Mississippi police chasing the suspects in what the police believe to be a stolen pick-up truck.

The suspects weave through traffic, drive on both sides of the road, and bust through several red lights.

The suspects, Darian "Drake" Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth, slipped away from the Baton Rouge, La. police barracks March 4. Mississippi authorities say the pair had been on the run up until the March 14 chase, according to WREG.

DeSoto County, MS authorities say the chase started when officers spotted a pick-up truck stolen from the Madison County, Tenn. Department of Parks and Recreation Monday afternoon.

The pace picks up around 5 minutes in. Not to spoil the ending, but Tennessee authorities say the suspects opened fire in the resulting foot chase. No one was harmed, and the police report they did not return fire.

Chip Washington, Shelby County Sheriff's spokesman, says now that these dangerous criminals are off the street, everyone should be able to breathe a little easier. He did not say that everyone can drive a little easier, too, but after watching the video it's probably true.
