Police say 33-year-old Blake Snyder was shot almost immediately after he arrived at the scene of a reported disturbance around 5 a.m. He died soon after.

Officials said another officer immediately fired at Trenton Forster, 18, hitting him several times. Forster is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital, said St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch at a press conference Thursday.

Forster will be held on $1 million bail, McCulloch said, adding that more charges could be filed.

Ofc. Snyder had a wife and 2-year-old son, according to St. Louis County Police Department Chief Jon Belmar.

This is the first line-of-duty death in the St. Louis County Police Department since October 31, 2000, when Sergeant Richard Weinhold was killed.
