Symantec CEO Obama's Top Choice For Commerce
John Thompson, the chairman and CEO of Symantec, is President Obama's leading choice to become Commerce secretary, a Democratic source tells CBS News.
Reuters also has a source saying the software security company chief is Mr. Obama's top choice.
Thompson "is the leading candidate," the source told Reuters, who noted Thompson is still being vetted.
An early supporter of Mr. Obama during the Democratic primary, Thompson, an African-American, made plans last year to step down from Symantec, which makes Norton AntiVirus, in April.
If he becomes Commerce secretary, the Los Angeles Times writes, it "would give the high-tech industry a major voice in the Obama administration.
