Suspect charged in death of Fla. doctor killed with hammer

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A man accused of using a hammer to kill a Florida doctor in June has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, reports CBS affiliate WINK.

Curtis Wayne Wright, of St. Louis, was arrested Sept. 16 in the death of a Bonita Springs, Fla. doctor, Teresa Sievers. He was charged Tuesday the day after a judge granted prosecutors an extension allowing them to keep Wright jailed while officials reviewed evidence in the case.

A second murder suspect, Jimmy Rodgers, is serving six months in federal prison for a parole violation. He will be brought to Lee County after that terms has concluded. Authorities say the probation violation put him in the same Florida county where Sievers was killed -- more than 1,100 miles from his eastern Missouri home -- a day before her body was found.

The terms of Rodgers' probation had barred him from leaving Missouri, but his probation officer said he was seen at a Wal-Mart store June 28 in Fort Myers, Florida, about 20 miles from Sievers' home.

Sievers, a mother of two, was found in her home in June. Her husband grew up with Sievers in suburban St. Louis, according to police.
