Sunday: Bush, Carson, McCain, Graham, and a Thanksgiving book panel
In the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks in France and Mali, President Obama sought this week to reassure Americans that there are no "credible threats" on the radar during Thanksgiving weekend.
Still, many of the 2016 Republican presidential candidates have continued offering harsh criticism of the president's strategy to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush argued that "sixty-five countries doing nothing is not a coalition," saying, "we need a strategy." Bush also underscored his concern about allowing Syrian refugees into the U.S., saying, "It is more than appropriate to press the pause button."
We'll talk with the Republican presidential candidate about his strategy to combat ISIS and his position on the current refugee crisis.
We'll also interview Dr. Ben Carson, another Republican presidential candidate, who's in Jordan as part of a trip to visit a camp of Syrian refugees. We'll talk about what the trip has taught him about the refugee crisis and the battle against extremists in the Middle East.
Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina will also join Sunday's broadcast from Baghdad, and they'll provide their assessment of America's current strategy to defeat ISIS.
We'll get some expert analysis from our political panel, including Wall Street Journal columnist and CBS News contributor Peggy Noonan, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, and David Ignatius and Michael Gerson, both columnists at The Washington Post.
Also appearing on the show will be our annual Thanksgiving book panel featuring Doris Kearns Goodwin, author of "Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream,"and "The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism;" Jon Meacham, author of "Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush;" Edward J. Larson, author of "The Return of George Washington;" and Karl Rove, author of "The Triumph of William McKinley."
