Stuffed "Minions" toy helped save girl's life, police say
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs police say a stuffed Minion toy helped save a 5-year-old girl's life after she fell out of a third-story apartment window.
The girl broke her arm, but police say the toy cushioned her fall.
Minions are small, yellow cartoon creatures that became popular from the computer-animated comedy film "Despicable Me."
Police said the girl was playing in her room when she fell backward out of her bedroom window. She dropped about three stories to the ground.
The girl was treated and released and authorities ruled the fall accidental.
With the release of the spin-off movie "Minions" recently, some of the franchise's toys have also caused a bit of controversy.
McDonald's (MCD) says some customers have complained that a talking Minions toy included in recent Happy Meals uses a certain curse word.
The fast-food restaurant introduced a Happy Meal with toys inspired by the movie "Minions" on July 3.
Since then, a few concerned parents have taken to the internet to voice their concerns. McDonald's has issued a hilarious statement saying the sounds the small yellow figures make are nonsense words, nothing offensive or profane.
"Minions speak 'Minionese' which is a random combination of many languages and nonsense words and sounds," the statement says. "'Minionese' has no translation to, or meaning in any recognized language."
"Any perceived similarities to words used within the English language is purely coincidental."
The statement also says "a very small number of customers" have been in touch with the company about the toy. McDonald's says there are no plans to stop distribution of the toy.
