Storms May Slow Holiday Travel

People in parts of the eastern U.S. who are getting a head-start on holiday travel today won't have an easy time of it. A strong coastal storm is expected to bring heavy rain and light snow to the Northeast.

Areas away from the coast could get as much as four inches of snow and regions prone to the so-called lake effect could see a lot more than that.

Storms produced up to an inch and a-half inch of snow in parts of Georgia last night. Wind knocked out power to about 25-thousand homes and businesses in the Atlanta area. At least two highways were shut down and Atlanta's main airport had three-hour delays.

Forecasters in New Jersey look for temperatures to take a nose-dive thanks to an Alberta Clipper behind the coastal storm. Winds of up to 45 miles-an-hour could add to the driving danger on bridges and overpasses.
