Still trying to get a $99 HP TouchPad? Hewlett-Packard answers your questions

CBS/hp.com

(CBS) - For those of you who haven't quit your journey in landing yourself a $99 HP TouchPad, there are new details from the Hewlett-Packard camp.

Can you still buy an HP TouchPad on the cheap?

In a post on The Next Bench, HP's blog, rep Mark Budgell said this:

"We have been surprised by the enthusiastic response to the TouchPad price drop, and we understand that many customers were disappointed that HP and our retail partners ran out of supply so fast... We will have more information available in the next few days about whether or not more will be available and if so, what the details will be about the situation."

Sit tight (or perhaps just give up?), HP TouchPad hunters. If you've signed up on their site to be notified by email if/when more HP TouchPads become available at that uber-low price, be on the lookout. "If more inventory is available in the future, there will be an order limit," Budgell added. However, HP has officially turned off the ability to sign up to be notified.

Budgell also stresses to check with local retailers to see if there's still inventory available.

But, for those of you who are waiting for a TouchPad you've already ordered, there might be a "sorry" coming your way. "People who've already ordered TouchPads online through HP may not necessarily get one," reported CNET. "HP is advising buyers that they should already have received either an e-mail confirming the order or one cancelling it if stock had already run out."
