Stephen Colbert recalls selling hot dogs at Wrigley Field after Cubs’ triumph
Stephen Colbert reflected on selling hot dogs at Wrigley Field in a wide-ranging interview with “Face The Nation” last month. He also recalled throwing out the first pitch from the mound, and how the whole experience made him feel like the luckiest guy in the world.
“I loved it…it’s a beautiful park” Colbert said, “As somebody who lived there for over a decade…I felt like the luckiest guy in the world to be throwin’ hot dogs around Wrigley Field.”
During the interview, Colbert shared memories of how much time he spent down the street from Wrigley visiting his girlfriend during college. (Colbert graduated from nearby Northwestern University.) He was there so much, he said, his girlfriend’s roommate told him, “You have to start buying toilet paper if you’re gonna be here this often.”
The “Late Show” host also reminisced about how it was one of the happiest places he had ever been, due to the fact it was right after the Chicago Cubs clinched the division playoffs.
“I have seen churches with less love than Wrigley Field had that day. And it was [a] beautiful day” Colbert said.
When moderator John Dickerson complimented him on how well he threw the hot dog, he responded, “It wasn’t hot when it left my glove, but it was smokin’ hot.”
