STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (CBS/AP) The words "am sorry" were still legible on a charred piece of paper found Friday in the Staten Island apartment where an alleged murder-suicide took place, claiming five lives. The noter, according to New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne, matched the handwriting found in the mother's diary, and could point to her as the perpetrator, instead of her initially suspected son.

Leisa Jones, her 14-year-old son and her two daughters were all found dead inside the apartment with slit throats Thursday morning, spokesman Browne said. Her  2-year-old son died at the hospital from smoke inhalation.

Investigators Monday said Jones and the 14-year-old had both ingested some type of drug. The officials said further tests were pending.

Fire officials have said the blaze started in the apartment and quickly moved through the two-story building's attic space and roof. Officials believe the fire was intentionally set by one of the family members.

Teenage son C.J. Jones reportedly had a history of playing with fire and became an early suspect, but the investigation is ongoing.

Leisa Jones, 32, was originally from Trinidad and attended beauty school during the day.
