"Star Trek Into Darkness" preview lands in IMAX 3-D theaters in December

"Star Trek" fans are in luck because the first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness" will premiere in some 500 IMAX theaters starting Dec. 14.

Paramount announced that the IMAX 3-D clip will be shown before select screenings of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," reports The Los Angeles Times.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as James T. Kirk and Spock, respectively. The film also features Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters on May 17, 2013.
