Sony says PlayStation 4 sales top 2 million in first month
Sony Corp. said on Tuesday that global sales of its PlayStation 4 game console exceeded 2.1 million units worldwide as of December 1.
Sony launched the PS4 in the United States and Canada in mid-November, a week before Microsoft's Xbox One console hit stores.
Another 700,000 units sold in Europe, Asia and Australia since launching there on November 29, Sony said in a statement.
The company has been marketing the PS4 aggressively in an advertising blitz that the company believes will pay off during the year-end holiday season.
Sony reported earlier that it sold more than one million PS4 consoles in their first day on the market.
Microsoft said it matched that number with a million Xbox One sales in just 24 hours the following week.
