Son of prominent Calif. businessman accused in kidnapping attempt

VISTA, Calif. - The son of a prominent San Diego businessman has been arrested on charges he tried to kidnap a 7-year-old girl from her school last month, reports CBS affiliate KFMB.

Jack Doshay, 22, was arrested Wednesday at a home in Laguna Niguel.

Doshay's father, Glenn Doshay, is reportedly a former investment manager, prominent local philanthropist and minority owner of the San Diego Padres baseball team.

On March 23, authorities say Jack Doshay grabbed a 7-year-old girl from Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach, clapped a hand over her mouth, tried to put packing tape on her face and attempted to carry her away, reports the station.

When the girl screamed and fought back, Jack Doshay allegedly let the girl go and fled the scene in an SUV, according to the station.

The 22-year-old Doshay was booked into the county jail in Vista Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment with violence and child cruelty. He was being held without bail pending his arraignment, which was scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Detectives followed up on about 150 tips in the case before tracking down Jack Doshay with information provided by his attorney, authorities say, according to the station.

Mike Paeske, the alleged victim's father, praised authorities for apprehending the man who allegedly tried to kidnap his daughter.

"San Diego County families can sleep a little better knowing that one less threat is out there on the streets," Paeske said at a news conference held by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Paeske also commended his daughter for how she reacted to the situation, saying the alleged perpetrator "messed with the wrong girl."

"She is our inspiration and our hero," he added.
