Solas

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Irish music supergroup Solas played their way into the Second Cup Cafe on The Saturday Early Show.

Their new album, "The Edge of Silence," maintains their Celtic roots but also incorporates elements of rock, blues, folk, and country.

The group is led by Seamus Egan, who grew up in Philadelphia and in Ireland. He is known for his musical work on the films "The Brothers McMullen" and "Dead Man Walking," and he also wrote Sarah McLaughlan's Grammy-winning hit "I'll Remember You."

Egan formed Solas six years ago. Egan and Solas recently finished working on the musical "Dancing on Dangerous Ground," the follow-up to "River Dance." Seamus co-wrote Sarah McLaughlan's Grammy-winning hit "I'll Remember You."

Native New Yorker Winifred Horan (fiddle, backing vocals) is a graduate of the New England Conservatory as well as former core member of Cherish The Ladies and The Sharon Shannon Band. Mick McAuley (accordions, whistle, vocals) is a virtuoso instrumentalist and delivers and evocative vocal on "Clothes Of Sand." Lead vocalist Deirdre Scanlan, a native of Nenagh, County Tipperary, made her mark in Ireland with her solo album Speak Softly, which received widespread praise. Donal Clancy, the highly talented son of Liam Clancy of The Clancy Brothers, came to Solas after a two-year stint in the Eileen Ivers Band.
