"Singing Family" Finals Set

More Early Show viewers sang the praises of "J4" and the Peay Family than they did of the Oswald Brothers when they voted with their clicks after the semifinals this week in our "Singing Family Face Off," so "J4" and the Peay Family move on to the finals of the competition.

The two family bands will perform live on the show Wednesday, March 25. Then, voting viewers have their final say, and the winner will be announced on April 1.

That winner will get a contract with CBS Records.

The results of the semifinals were announced on the show Friday:

The Peay Family band is made up of four brothers from Greensboro, N.C. Taimine, Katif, Majid and Solomon Peay often sing a cappella, with their mom, Joyce Peay, behind them all the way. Whether in church or at local 4-H gatherings, the Peay brothers have sung, together and often, most of their lives. Joyce acts as their manager. Their father passed away when they were younger, but remains a big influence in their music.

Four siblings from the Smith family, from rural Bluff City, Tenn., ages 7 to 15, are "J4." The oldest two have played for a couple of years for services at the church across the street from their home, where their dad, Mark, is pastor. What does "J4" mean? Simple: Jessi, 15, plays guitar and violin and sings; Jedidiah (also known as Jeddi), 13, plays drums and piano; Josiah, 8, plays violin and guitar and sings backup; and Josephine, 7, plays keyboard.
