Sigourney Weaver to leave "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike"
Newly crowned Tony Award winner "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" has gotten a new lease on life but one of its original actresses will be leaving.
Producers of Christopher Durang's comical work that won the best play award Sunday said Monday it will extend for a final time until Aug. 25. Sigourney Weaver, who plays Masha, will play her final performance on July 28 and be replaced by Tony-winner Julie White.
White was seen on the NBC comedy "Go On" opposite Matthew Perry and won the 2007 Tony for her performance in "The Little Dog Laughed." She joins a cast that includes Kristine Nielsen, David Hyde Pierce and Tony nominees this season Billy Magnussen and Shalita Grant.
The play centers on three middle-aged siblings uneasily negotiating with age.
As for Weaver, she has a full acting schedule coming up, with roles in "Avatar 2" and "Body Art."
