In my interview with Mark Murphy, he dispels the myths about traditional goal setting and reveals why too often we fall short and fail in what we set out to achieve. Discussing his latest book, HARD Goals: The Secret To Getting From Where Your Are To Where You Want To Be, Mark explains the science behind activating your brain so you can achieve more and have greater success. No more gimmicks, tricks, or traditional goal setting solutions that simply don't work. Start making HARD goals!
Sound difficult? Don't worry! HARD goals aren't literally hard goals. HARD is an acronym for creating goals that will activate your brain for extraordinary results:

Robert: What would be that first step someone should think about doing in order to create HARD goals?Listen to the full Mark Murphy interview now to learn more about how you can achieve success through setting HARD Goals.Mark: The first thing is take one of your goals that means something to you, that you want to do but you've been struggling a bit with, and you make it 20% more difficult than it currently is. That is going to instantly wake your brain up. And then, the second thing is to try to visualize it. What is this going to look like? Try and bring the visual senses into this because if it's just the number on a sheet of paper that's usually not enough. We want you to take it a level beyond that. So, you want to add that visual component in. And third, once you've got those two pieces in place, you've made them a bit harder, you've asked what they actually look like, you've visualized it -- in doing all that you actually take care of a lot of the heartfelt step as well! Then you can ask yourself (sort of a final step), "Okay, what's something I can do today to start pushing this thing forward? What's the one step I can take right now that is going to move the ball forward a bit?" And once you have that, go do it. Wake up tomorrow and ask yourself the same question. Those are really sort of the 1-2-3 of how you get started with this. Take an existing goal, make it more difficult to wake up the brain, visualize it, animate it, bring it to life in your brain, and then from there, figure out how you're going to operationalize it with one thing. And that's usually the key right there.
