Shooting reported outside N.C. courthouse; gunmen sought
NASHVILLE, N.C. -- Two men were shot outside a North Carolina courthouse Tuesday, and police are searching for two gunmen, reports CBS affiliate WRAL.
The incident happened outside the Nash County Courthouse in Nashville, about 40 miles east of Raleigh. The two victims suffered non-life-threatening wounds, Sheriff Dick Jenkins told the station.
Many offices and schools near the courthouse also reportedly remain locked down Tuesday afternoon as the manhunt continued. Officials were searching for two gunmen and a white car, Jenkins told the station.
North Carolina Highway Patrol and Nash County authorities are responding. The main entrances of the Nash County Administration buildings are reportedly locked down, with no one allowed to enter or leave.
Marie Hinkle, who works across the street from the courthouse, told WRAL she heard gunfire.
"I heard what appeared to be gunshots - lots of gunshots," Hinkle said. "There was a man down on the side street next to the courthouse."
"People ran out from the courthouse. They were screaming," she said.
