Shirley Manson slams Kanye West over Grammys rant
Shirley Manson wasn't pleased with Kanye West's antics at Sunday's Grammy Awards.
The lead singer for the band Garbage took to her Facebook page Monday and said the rapper's rant about Beck winning album of the year made him look "small and petty and spoilt."
"In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own," Manson wrote, adding, "Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete [expletive]."
West took issue with Beck's "Morning Phase" winning the Grammy over Beyonce's self-titled effort. He briefly came on stage as Beck accepted the award, but turned away without making any comments. Later, he complained to E! News, "I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyonce."
Manson responded directly to West's comments in her Facebook post.
"It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry," she said. "You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK."
As for Beyonce, Manson added, "I am pretty certain [she] doesn't need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she's got everything covered perfectly well on her own."
Beck, for his part, took West's comments in stride. "You can't please everybody, man," he told Us Weekly. "I still love him [West] and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
