(CBS) First she beat breast cancer, now Sheryl Crow is hoping to help other women do the same.

Tuesday, the Grammy-award-winning singer opened a breast cancer detection center in Los Angeles, part of the Pink Lotus Breast Center.

This "has provided me with a wonderful platform to create awareness and encourage the millions of American women over 40 to get their annual mammogram," the singer said in a statement.

Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She underwent minimally invasive surgery to remove a cancerous lump and then radiation therapy.

She says she's been cancer-free since. Crow has two adopted sons: Wyatt, 3, and Levi, 4 months.
