Sheila MacVicar
Sheila MacVicar joined CBS News as a correspondent based in London in June 2004.
MacVicar had been an international correspondent based in London for CNN since May 2001. Before that, she was a London-based correspondent for ABC News (1990-2001).
MacVicar has covered some of the world's most troubled regions, including conflicts in Bosnia, Iraq, Israel, Rwanda and Zaire. Her reporting in these areas often focused on war crimes, war criminals and the impact regional strife has on those who are least responsible for it. For many years, MacVicar has reported on terrorism and security issues, including investigations in Saudi Arabia and Kenya, as well as throughout Europe and the Middle East.
She reported from the Persian Gulf region on the escalating tensions with Iraq and the ensuing war. MacVicar provided both breaking news and in-depth reporting from Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, including an interview with the secretary general of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah.
She has won three Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. In 1998, The One World Broadcasting Trust in the United Kingdom presented MacVicar with a media award for a report about the success of candid public education in Uganda in the fight against HIV infection.
At ABC News, she reported on events in Africa, Europe and the Middle East for "World News Tonight" and "Nightline." Before that, MacVicar worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (1981-1990), where she was co-host of a primetime current affairs magazine (1990); a foreign correspondent based in London for "CBC National News" (1986-88), covering Western and Eastern Europe as well as the Middle East; a producer and reporter for CBC-TV's "The Journal," a nightly current affairs program (1985-86); and a national news correspondent for the network (1981-85). Before joining the CBC, she was a reporter for CBC affiliates in Calgary and Montreal.
MacVicar was born in Montreal, Canada. She was graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a degree in journalism and economics.
MacVicar has one daughter.
