"She Had It Coming," Police Say Wife-Killer Proclaimed; Michael McDougall Charged With Murdering Pregnant Wife
HOUSTON (CBS/AP) A Houston area husband and father of three told police "she had it coming," right after he allegedly shot his pregnant wife to death, say authorities.
Michael Alan McDougall, a 37-year-old petroleum engineer from Spring, Texas, is charged with killing his wife Jennifer McDougall, who was about six months pregnant with a baby girl.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Jennifer McDougall was shot several times outside her home, and her her unborn child also did not survive.
Investigators say witnesses reported hearing gun shots, and a woman screaming Sunday morning. CBS affiliate KHOU reports a neighbor said she could hear Jennifer McDougall screaming for help, "Help me. Help me. What are you doing? Somebody please help me."
Deputies arrested McDougall at the house. A handgun was recovered. A motive for the shooting is sought.
The couple's three children, ages two, four and eight, were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services. Investigators say the kids were in the house when their father allegedly killed their mother.
Steve Hochanadel, who lives three doors down and works with Michael McDougall, says both families relocated from the Denver area last year. He said he knew his co-worker was stressed, but didn't realize how much.
Harris County jail records show Michael McDougall was booked Monday on a capital murder charge and held without bail.
