Sexting investigation leads to arrest of Pa. middle school students
TREDYFFRIN Twp., Pa. -- Police say they have filed charges against three Philadelphia-area middle school students for allegedly distributing intimate photos of other students, according to CBS Philly.
Police say the investigation, which began last year, revolves around selfies taken by students at Valley Forge and Tredyffrin-Easttown middle schools, reported the station. According to The Inquirer, the investigation is still ongoing and more children are likely to be charged soon.
"We found that a number of children were involved in possessing and sending intimate images of juveniles, as well as some involving child pornography involving school-aged children," Sergeant Todd Bereda told CBS Philly.
In most cases, the students would voluntarily send images and videos of themselves to other children, police told the newspaper. In other cases, students would allegedly post photos of a classmate online and send them to other students.
In one incident, Bereda told CBS Philly that one of the suspects took a pornographic photo, using it to harass a female classmate. In another incident, a suspect allegedly offered to sell a pornographic photograph of a classmate to another student.
Charges against the young suspects -- who currently range from 11 to 15 years of age -- include obscenity, indecent assault, stalking and harassment, reports the station.
