'Sexiest' Matthew McConaughey

Opening last weekend in the No. 1 spot at the box office, "Failure to Launch" is the romantic comedy of the moment. And starring in the movie is Matthew McConaughey, who has made his mark in this genre with other hits like "The Wedding Planner" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."

McConaughey joined The Early Show to talk about the movie, in which his character plays a 30-something bachelor, who refuses to leave the nest. His parents hire a professional, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, to dislodge him from their home.

McConaughey says working with Parker was a big treat.

"I've had a crush on her since 'Honeymoon in Vegas,' " he told co-anchor Harry Smith.

And, while he hoped the chemistry would be good on this film, he couldn't have predicted for sure.

"You look at someone's work. You've met them and you have an idea, but you don't know how it's going to work," McConaughey said. "But with her it was very easy. She's got impeccable timing, and a very peculiar comedic timing, which really, really works for her."

McConaughey's father is played by Terry Bradshaw, who, as a sports commentator and former football quarterback, was a bigger question mark. But McConaughey says he was a real professional, and didn't need much in the way of acting tips.

"Bradshaw comes right in. He only needs to give you a couple of takes," said McConaughey. "If you tell him the second one is great, but let's do a third one, he'll interrupt you and say, 'If it was great, why do we need a third great one?' "

With his movie looking like a box office hit, his name in the headlines, it's no wonder McConaughey says he's having the time of his life.

"I am having a good time, more fun now than I've ever been having, actually, in 13 years of my career," he told Smith. "One, getting older, 36, is cool."

Second, there's the satisfaction of growing as an actor.

"When I first started, I would say I didn't know quite what I was doing," he said. "There's fun to that, then you learn and there's fun to that. I do my work, but when I'm out there acting, I don't have to think about what I'm doing as much. At the end of the movie, I feel more gratification of something I've been a part of building with this whole crew, this whole circus. You walk away and hope like heck it works out."

As for being chosen by People magazine as last year's "Sexist Man Alive," McConaughey says, "My mom's very happy, too."
