Severed foot found in NYC is bear's, not kid's
NEW YORK - A neighborhood in Queens breathed a sigh of relief following a grisly discovery Sunday night, when a man taking out the garbage found what appeared to be a severed child's foot on his front lawn.
Police responded to the scene to investigate, reported CBS Station WCBS but found nothing else.
On Monday the Medical Examiner's Office determined the foot was actually a bear's paw.
The only mystery that remains is how the paw ended up on someone's lawn.
The New York Times reports that Bradley Adams, the chief forensic anthropologist at the medical examiner's office, speculated that a hunter shot the bear and cut off the claws for a souvenir.
