Second person dies after Mardi Gras parade shooting
NEW ORLEANS - A second person has died following a shooting along the route of a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans Thursday night and police say they have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the attack.
Authorities say 19-year-old John Hicks of New Orleans was booked Friday and accused of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He was also was charged with carrying a firearm on a parade route.
One person, age 21, died soon after the shooting, which took place at about 10 p.m. Thursday on St. Charles Avenue on the edge of the city's museum and art districts, and the other, a 22-year-old male, died Friday.
The victims' names have not been released.
In at least eight of the past 11 years, shootings have marred the city's Mardi Gras celebration. Thursday night, the parade continued to roll on amid the chaos, reports CBS affiliate WWLTV.
A motive for the shooting wasn't released.
