Fan who caught game-winning Seahawks ball talks plans
SEATTLE - It was an historic play after an epic comeback: Jermaine Kearse caught a 35-yard touchdown from quarterback Russell Wilson to win the NFC Championship in overtime, sending the Seattle Seahawks to its second Super Bowl in two years.
An emotional Kearse immediately hurled the ball into the hometown stands, and it landed in the arms of local man Scott Shelton.
"This is history right here," the Monroe man said, holding the game ball with a crowd of cheering fans outside CenturyLink Field, reports CBS affiliate KIRO in Seattle.
Shelton told KIRO he has no plans to sell the game-winning football to the highest bidder. He's reportedly already received five-figure offers for the piece of football history.
He said initially he wanted to keep it for his young son - and hopefully someday get it signed by Wilson and Kearse.
On Monday however, Kearse called Shelton and asked for the ball back. He said he'd give Shelton a game-worn jersey and a helmet signed by the team. Shelton said, however, he's not sure about giving it up.
KOMO-TV reports Shelton asked Kearse instead for Super Bowl tickets, and Kearse replied he'd look into it.
Shelton's mother told KOMO-TV that Shelton, a jobless father of two, is expected to begin serving jail time for an undisclosed crime the day after the Super Bowl.
