"Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland granted 3-year restraining order
Sarah Hyland's ex-boyfriend has been ordered to stay away from the actress and not contact her for three years.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Andrea Thompson granted the "Modern Family" star the protection from actor Matt Prokop on Thursday.
A hearing on Hyland's request for a stay-away order had been scheduled for Friday, but Prokop did not contest the order.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, the 23-year-old actress accused Prokop of choking her with a "grip so tight that [she] could not breathe or speak." Hyland also claimed that after ending the relationship in August, Prokop "relentlessly bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats."
He also purportedly threatened to burn her house down and harm her dog.
As per the restraining order, "Prokop must stay 100 yards from her, her house and her dog, as well as not go near her workplace, not own a gun and not attack or threaten to harm her dog in any way."
The court documents also noted that Prokop, 24, had a recent stint in rehab, and claimed the facility suggested Hyland get a restraining order because of Prokop's mental state.
Hyland didn't report the incidents to police and Prokop has not been criminally charged.
Prokop co-starred with Hyland in the TV movie "Geek Charming" and appeared in one episode of "Modern Family." He also appeared in "High School Musical 3."
A phone message seeking comment was left for Prokop's lawyer, Joseph Singleton.
