Santana: 'All That I Am'

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is reaching out for a whole generation of fans again. "All That I Am" is his 38th album and features a star-studded list of guest artists from Steven Tyler to Mary J. Blige.

"First we create the song and then the songs tell us. They scream 'Go after this person, male or female,' " Santana told The Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm.

He visited to perform his new single, "I'm Feeling You," with Michelle Branch. This is their second collaboration.

"We love her voice, her heart, her spirit," Santana said about Branch. "With everything that's happening in the world, with so much fear and anger, I think her voice is like a real beam of light. We need that joy, that positive thing."

Santana teamed up with Branch on the lead single from 2002's "Shaman," "The Game Of Love," a Grammy-winning No. 5 Billboard pop hit.

"Just being able to have the opportunity, once, and then twice, is just a complete honor," Branch said. "It's great to be here again. I feel like I'm part of you guys' family."

And it is a family that keeps on giving. Santana's wife, Deborah, is celebrating the release of her first book, "Space Between The Stars." It's an intensely personal memoir that took her seven years to complete.

"It's really an opportunity for people to try to do something with their own life," she said. "The reason for my writing it was so they could stand up and be an individual, and be seen as an individual in the world."

Married in 1973, the Santanas have three children, Salvador, 22, Stella, 20, and Angelica, 15. For the past decade, Deborah managed all of her husband's business affairs as COO of the New Santana Band. And, aside from the release of her book, they have a new fragrance and shoe line.

"We love to make women happy, and help the children of world," Carlos Santana said.

His wife added: "Any partnering that we do, we try to make a portion of it go to our foundation, which serves children in the areas of health, education and the arts. And we have funded over 260 agencies around the world."

An inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Carlos Santana has won 10 Grammy Awards, sold more than 90 million records and performed for more than 100 million people.

In addition to playing guitar on the new album, Santana also co-produced "All That I Am" with Arista/J Records founder/BMG U.S. chairman and CEO Clive Davis who also produced the multi-platinum and Grammy-winning albums "Supernatural" and "Shaman."

The 1999 blockbuster "Supernatural" has sold over 23 million worldwide and went on to net a record-tying nine Grammy's for one project, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for the smash single "Smooth."

The most recent of Santana's many career honors was the World Music Awards 2005 top "Legend Award."

The second leg of Santana's 2005 "Embrace Your Light" tour kicked off Sept. 15, 2005, in San Jose, Calif.

As for Branch, her latest musical projects have her teamed up with friend Jessica Harp. The two have formed a new group together called "The Wreckers," and their new CD will be out next year. Along with her musician husband, Teddy Landau, she celebrated the birth of their new baby girl, Owen, in August 2005.

Guest artists on "All That I Am" include Steven Tyler, Michelle Branch & The Wreckers, Outkast's Big Boi, Mary J. Blige, Metallica's Kirk Hammett, Sean Paul, Los Lonely Boys, Joss Stone, will.i.am, Anthony Hamilton, Bo Bice and Robert Randolph.

On The Early Show, Santana also performed the classic hit "Oye Como Va."
