Santa Monica College Shooting: Shots fired, multiple injuries, suspect down, reports say

(CBS/AP) SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Santa Monica College is on lockdown Friday after a shooting was reported on or near the campus, and police say a suspect is down, CBS Los Angeles reports.

According to the station, multiple injures were reported, but the exact number is unclear.

Reports say a worker on campus heard dozens of gunshots and saw students scrambling for safety.

A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol told CBS Los Angeles that the CHP had received a report of a man armed with several guns shooting into traffic and at a bus.

According to its website, Santa Monica College is a 2-year community college serving more than 30,000 students.

President Barack Obama is in Santa Monica speaking at a luncheon fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee about a 10-minute drive from where the shooting took place, the station reports.
