Ryan Gosling's "Only God Forgives" trailer debuts
Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn ("Valhalla Rising") found success when they teamed up for the 2011 crime heist film, "Drive."
The actor and filmmaker have since reunited for "Only God Forgives" a brutal new action drama set in Thailand.
The film's red-band trailer (featuring the "For Mature Audiences Only" caution) was officially unveiled Thursday, with the film promising to deliver similar action-heavy set pieces found in "Drive."
In "Only God Forgives," Gosling plays Julien, a mysterious gangster who displays little remorse for his victims. His mother, played by fellow Oscar nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, narrates during the new trailer, cryptically revealing that she considered aborting him during pregnancy.
"They wanted me to terminate, but I wouldn't. I don't understand you, and I never will," she tells him in the newly released clip.
Gosling has just one line of dialogue in the trailer, "Wanna fight?," spoken to Bangkok police officer Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm).
It seems the film will center around a Thai boxing match between Chang and Gosling's character.
Gosling recently announced that he's taking a break from acting to focus on his directorial debut, "How to Catch a Monster." His most recent film, "The Place Beyond the Pines," is now playing in theaters.
"Only God Forgives" is set for release on July 19.
