Ryan Braun calls fan with "Marry me" sign
Who says marriage proposal signs to millionaire star players never work?
Well, they don't, but one fan in Milwaukee got more than she bargained for when she actually printed her phone number on her "Marry Me, Ryan" poster board at Miller Park. The object of her affection: Brewers slugger Ryan Braun.
Not surprisingly, the woman, who called herself Robin, ended up getting more than 200 phone calls and 600 text messages from fans who saw her digits on TV, according to a Fox Sports reporter who interviewed her in the stands.
"I thought it was a good idea at the time," Robin said, adding that she turned her phone off to avoid the deluge of calls.
Too bad - because Braun himself heard about Robin's sign and actually placed a call to her - See the video here.
Alas, Braun, like countless others, got a message that her voicemail inbox was full, so he couldn't leave a message for his would-be bride.
"Not meant to be," Braun shrugged after hanging up the phone.
But the slugger (who has a girlfriend, for the record) didn't seem too crestfallen as he sauntered off to bask in the $105 million contract extension he signed last week.
