Rove-backed group launches new $11 million ad buy
A new TV ad by the Karl Rove-backed group American Crossroads bashes President Obama for failing to follow through on his promises.
With a graphic on screen, a narrator says the president promised the stimulus would reduce unemployment to 5.6 percent. "But this is what the jobless rate actually is 8.1 percent," the narrator adds, referring to a 2009 report by Mr. Obama's economic advisers. "The difference - about 3.7 million jobs."
"Obama's spending drove us $5 trillion deeper in debt and now we have fewer jobs than when he started," the narrator continued. "What Obama promised versus what he delivered."
The pro-Romney third-party group is spending $11 million on the ad that's set to air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia. This is not the first multimillion dollar ad buy by American Crossroads or its sister organization Crossroads GPS. Some estimates show that the two groups have spent $120 million on campaign ads this general election.
"Obama's weak leadership has yielded weak results and a weaker America," said American Crossroads president and CEO Steven Law in a news release. "Staying on Obama's course means a weaker America every day - that's what this election is about."
The Obama campaign responded saying the private sector has created 5.1 million jobs over the last 30 months. "While there's still work to do, Karl Rove's ad ignores reality...the middle class just can't afford Mitt Romney's policies," Obama campaign spokesperson Danny Kanner said.
Meantime, a day after Romney backedPresident Obama's policy of allowing undocumented youth to obtain visas, the Romney campaign and the Republican National Convention released a new Spanish-language television ad.
The ad says the president and his "Democratic allies" pushed the national debt over the $16 trillion mark. With the picture of a little girl putting quarters in a piggy bank, a narrator says, "to pay for it, our children will owe more than $50,000."
"The policy of Obama and the Democrats has caused that half of our young people are struggling to find work when they graduate," the ad continues.
The Romney campaign does not release details of its ads, including how large the buy is or where their ads are running.
