Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is back with new solo album
Keith Richards, legendary Rolling Stones lead guitarist, is back with a new solo album.
Richards' album, titled "Crosseyed Heart," is his third solo record and his first in over 20 years.
In a 15-track musical master class, Richards calls on reggae, rock, country and blues influences.
"Trouble," the first single from the album, will be released July 17. The track is a cover of the Elvis Presley hit, written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The full album will be available Sept. 18 on Republic Records.
Richards, who is currently on tour with The Rolling Stones, hasn't released a solo studio album since 1992's "Main Offender."
"There's nothing like walking into a studio and having absolutely no idea what you're going to come out with on the other end," Richards said in a statement. "If you're looking for 'Trouble,' you've come to the right place."
Richards wrote or co-wrote the majority of the tracks and plays electric and acoustic guitars, bass, piano and vocals on he album. He's joined by guitarist Waddy Wachtel, keyboardist Ivan Neville and background singer Sarah Dash, part of the X-Pensive Winos, who accompanied Richards on his previous solo records.
Steve Jordan plays drums and vocals and other artists accompany Richards on individual tracks, including Stax songwriter and keyboardist Spooner Oldham on "Lovers Plea," pedal steel by Larry Campbell on "Robbed Blind," Aaron Neville on backup vocals on "Nothing On Me," and the late Bobby Keys on saxophone on "Amnesia" and "Blues in the Morning."
Jordan and Wachtel are longtime collaborators with Keith.
"[Wachtel] is a natural maestro," Richards told Rolling Stone magazine in 2013. "He can take a song to further heights than you expected, beyond expectations. I envy him, quite honestly."
