Upstate New York police investigate fatal Christmas Night shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police in Rochester are investigating the fatal shooting of a man on a city street on Christmas Night.

Authorities say an officer in a patrol vehicle thought he heard gunshots around 5:30 p.m. Monday near an intersection on the city's west side. The officer made a U-turn and found a man's body lying in the street.

According to police, the victim died at the scene.

Police told the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper that people who said they were family members of the deceased victim approached investigators at the scene and were working with police.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.

Investigators worked the crime scene Monday night in frigid conditions.

It is not clear if they have any suspects in the case.
